Let us look back to the beginning of this decade, when talking about social responsibility was a subject of concern to only a few in Brazil. A novelty in imported books that landed on the desks of the directors in a few companies and national NGOs. At this time people were starting to discuss the role of the public and the private in changing the social framework of our country.
Motivated by a vocation that was born out of the expertise of a telecommunications group, working with the most far fl ung – and forgotten – areas of our country, we assumed the task of working with our society. Thus, the Telemar Institute was born.
In 2006, now with its new name (Oi Futuro), we have added to our name the mark of contemporary convergence of Oi. The perception that remains with us is that we have advanced still further towards the aims glimpsed at the beginning of the millennium. An experience that led us to play a leading role in what we now call Social Responsibility. And we are prepared – fed by the energy of a rejuvenated company interested in change – to continue a program of social transformation of which we are very proud.
